Caves and arches create a moody backdrop with sunlight illuminating a surreal underwater landscape. Picking up and delivering appliances has never looked so good.
Box Truck Mural
The design prompt was to create a high-contrast environment full of creatures, appliances, and tools. There is a welding octopus, a fiddler crab with a toolbox body and a vise-grip claw, a washing machine box jellyfish, plier coral, an eel emerging from a dryer, and a school of wrench fish.
I enjoyed inventing an imaginative underwater landscape with surreal creatures. Each side tells a different part of the story. This box truck mural certainly catches peoples’ eyes!
Process
The surreal underwater landscape of schooling wrenches and hex nut coral is part of what made this project so interesting. In order to develop the complexity, I worked in layers.
I gridded out the overall design (using the rivets as guidelines) with a water-soluble Stabilo pencil. Later on, I used the sign painting pounce method to transfer chalk mark outlines of the text and turtle logo.
