The American Littoral Society promotes the study and conservation of marine life and habitat, protects the coast from harm, and empowers others to do the same.
Membership Day Shirt Design
Since 1961 the American Littoral Society has empowered people to care for the coast through advocacy, conservation, and education. They not only provide a voice for the coast, but also give concerned citizens the knowledge and tools they need to raise their voices with us. When they restore habitat, the objective is not only to restore a dune or rebuild an oyster reef, but also to motivate people to invest “sweat equity” into a piece of the coast, take ownership and become committed stewards.
I created a shirt design for the 2023 membership day that conveyed the mission of the American Littoral Society. The concept for the shirt includes local species from the New Jersey coast. The group wants people to feel empowered to care for the coast.
“When we educate, we don’t merely provide books, CDs, or handouts. We lead students young and old into the water to get their feet wet and their hands muddy. Sitting at a computer or reading a book, people may develop an interest in the coast; standing knee deep in sea foam with sand between their toes, they will develop a passion for the coast.”
I made two versions of the shirt design to try out different taglines:
-Dirty Hands, Salty Hair, Coastal Care
-Caring for the Coast since 1961
Testimonial
“Working with Siena was such a pleasure! She was ready and willing to listen to our feedback and work with us to create designs our members love. Everyone was blown away by our new merchandise at our annual member appreciation picnic.
“Our members and staff alike are now proudly sporting Siena’s designs. The care and concern she pours into her work are evident from Day 1. We are so thankful that she reached out to us and would love to continue working with her in the future. We also whole-heartedly recommend her to others.
“Thank you again so much for everything you did for us. I really can’t thank you enough!”
