What can a mural evoke instead of depict?

The Power of Imaginative Illustration
Sensory delight fuels resilience
The suffocating weight of reality can drain the world of color. We can’t take on the world when we are in survival mode. The first step in building resilience is basking in sensory delight. Smell a flower, feel the cool wind on your face, hear a crackling fire, touch a mossy log, look at something arrestingly beautiful.
Revel in the bittersweet
beauty of life
In resistance to negativity, amusing illustration helps my mental health to keep fighting for a more beautiful world. Beauty helps us remember what we are fighting for. The little moments of laughter and human connection make life worth living. Helping someone laugh in spite of the crushing weight of the world makes a world of difference in how they move through life.
Opens people up to other
ways of thinking
Creative breakthroughs rely on imaginative play. Nurturing our imaginations is a radical act because playful thinking will solve big problems. Plus, amusing artwork is just plain fun! Bringing a smile to someone’s face is always a win and creates a ripple effect of positive change.

Hello! I’m Siena, an artist based in Indianapolis, IN
I specialize in large-scale professional mural projects, creating vibrant murals in partnership with organizations anchored in community.
I use imaginative artwork to build bridges between siloed groups. We have much more in common with each other and with nature than we are led to believe.
Above all, my goal is to use public art to improve people’s lives. I genuinely believe in the power of art to make a positive impact through the science of neuroaesthetics.
“It is rare to find someone who is so creatively gifted in addition to possessing such professionalism, attention to detail and exceptional work ethic.”
- Katie Kaanapu, Kona Commons
Community-focused
A big part of my approach to being an artist is giving back. I combine the feel-good benefits of being of service and being creative. Every year I donate/discount several projects that benefit neighborhoods and/or nonprofits.
Typically, a price reduction or a full donation means I get full creative freedom, as opposed to a regular commissioned artwork. Historically, I have led groups of volunteers to install murals, or I have painted the murals, depending on the circumstances. Additionally, donated/discounted projects book several months in advance, so contact me early to discuss possibilities.

Printing up a storm in the White Mountains of New Hampshire
I recently completed my fourth in person artist residency at Directangle Press. I drove from Indianpolis, Indiana to Bethlehem, New Hampshire. (That’s almost a quarter of the country!) The drive was very beautiful and I visited family along the way. I chose to drive so that I could bring my bike and lots of art supplies.
This artist residency tempted me to travel so far because...
