Shirt Design
Kona Sports Center hired me to create eye-catching, one-of-a-kind shirt designs full of tropical splendor. The client wanted to avoid cliched motifs in order to appeal to their discerning clientele.
I crafted three designs that celebrate the volcanic, jungly place that is the Big Island of Hawaii. Lava tubes depicted by woven bike tubes, leafy vines, and bike wheel parts are all in the playfully surreal artwork.
These shirts are one color screen prints aimed at cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts. They are full of texture and appeal to all genders.
Products
In addition to the screen-printed shirts, Kona Sports Center also licensed the artwork for use on other products.
You can find waterbottles and tumblers customized with the unique designs.
Process
Somewhere between knitting and making tire sculptures exists the world of bike tube crafting. I made the mental leap between bike tubes and lava tubes, which turned into one of the shirt designs.
The two other designs include a bike chain outline of the island and a bike wheel framing an erupting volcano.
