Bringing seasonal, local blooms to Honolulu, Rainbow Proteas deserved a visual identity as beautiful as their gorgeous flowers.

Brand Identity

I created a hand-lettered logo and color palette that captures the boho style of Rainbow Proteas.

 
 

Pattern Design

The source material for these patterns came from Malolo Farm on Maui. I took a tour and a bazillion pictures of the gorgeous pincushion, mink, and king proteas. I also learned about banksia plants and their mesmerizing zig-zag leaves. So much inspiration!!

I drew the complex flowers in layers, digitized them on my iPad, and then created a repeat pattern in Adobe Illustrator. The pattern utilizes the color palette in an eye-catching way and can be used digitally and printed.

Printmaking

I screen-printed the business cards and kraft paper to create cohesive handmade elements. The back of the business cards is a 2 color version of the main flower pattern. I printed eight at a time and then cut them into individual business cards. Thank you, Honolulu Printmakers for the great printmaking studio. 😁

The checkerboard pattern features the Rainbow Proteas logo, a pincushion protea, and a king protea. I screen-printed varied solid colors and rainbow rolls (get it??) to create a fun mix of kraft paper. It’s all in the details!
