Windsor Village Park

CHEEKY MURAL

IU Health and Indy Parks hired me to design murals in five areas of a walking path to encourage healthy living and mindfulness.

Setting the Mood

The goals for this project included:

-Design five vibrant murals with cohesive, fun colors
-Lead IU Health volunteers to paint the designs over the course of two days

With these parameters in mind, I focused on simple, geometric shapes. This mood board shows the overall playful vibe I was going for.

Next step: designing!

Design Concepts

Each of the five areas was conceptually inspired by elements of health:

  • Zip - the importance of community and coming together (like the teeth of a zipper)

  • Meander - two path options explore how slowing down to be present can reduce anxiety

  • Sunburst - sunshine and being outdoors is so important for mental health well being

  • Breathe - a looping cycle of deep belly breaths to calm the nervous system

  • Stepping Stones - setting doable, measurable goals to build consistency, enjoy the process, and become the person you want to be

Installation

The weather was perfect for the two day painting party.

IU Health brought over forty volunteers to Windsor Village Park to beautify the walking path. We used a combination of brushes and thick rollers to apply the paint to the asphalt. This is a tough surface to work with so the volunteers had a great amount of patience to fill in all the cracks.

Two to three coats of paint made the colors pop.

Americorps Vista and Indy Parks made the installation very enjoyable.

Thank you for all your hard work!

Final Result

You can see a bird’s eye view of Windsor Village Park and where the five murals are located around the walking path.
